This match is another classic New Zealand rugby derby and is exactly what the new conference system in the new Super Rugby format is all about.

Out of the last seven clashes the Blues have won just once. Between 1996 and 2003 the Blues and Hurricanes played eight matches and all were won by the Blues. In 2004 there was a draw between the teams and then aside from the 19-17 victory by the Blues in 2008 all of the matches have gone the Blues way.

On average the Blues score 29 points against the Hurricanes who score 25 points against the Blues on average in these matches.

It's been four years since the Lions managed back to back Super Rugby victories but that will be that is what they will be attempting to do against the Force.

The Lions won their first game since May 2009 - ending a 17 match winless streak - when they beat the Cheetahs by 25-20 last weekend and will now be aiming for another victory for their first set of consecutive wins since 2007.

Four years ago the Lions enjoyed a series of four consecutive victories, which included a win over their opponents this weekend, the Force, then still coached by current Lions mentor, Mitchell.

The Hurricanes have Ma'a Nonu back for this match while Aaron Cruden and Jayden Hayward have been dropped to the bench. Jeremy Thrush pushes James Broadhurst down to the bench and Serge Lilo drops out completely.

The Blues have made changes as well and coach Pat Lam has told his players that if they do not perform they will be dropped - and they have. John Afoa comes in for Charlie Faumuina and Toby Morland is dropped out of the squad. Luke McAlister moves to centre and Stephen Brett takes over the reigns at 10.

Joe Rokocoko has been dropped and Benson Stanley who played at centre last week moves to the wing. This should shake things up a bit and keep the players on edge.

The Highlanders still lead the New Zealand Super rugby conference and many believe that the Crusaders are the team with the best form currently so this match should be a cracker.

The Highlanders and Crusaders have played each other 18 times and the Highlanders have won just six times. Two of those wins came in the last three clashes and one was even in Christchurch.

Before that though the Highlanders had not toppled the Crusaders since 2001.

On average in these matches the Highlanders score 21 points against the Crusaders who score 28 points on average against the Highlanders.

The Crusaders have named a predictably strong team for the Highlanders with Zac Guildford and Kahn Fotuali'i coming on to the bench for the first time this season.

The Crusaders starting line up is pretty much first choice players. Guildford started on the wing last year and scored a try for the Crusaders in this match.
